'Critical' Adobe security updates coming tomorrow

Are you using Adobe Reader or Acrobat software? Then you should probably check for some security updates tomorrow in order to avoid being vulnerable to some malicious security attacks.

ZDNet reports that Adobe intends to issue “critical” security updates for its Reader and Acrobat software at some point tomorrow. The software versions affected by these updates are:

Adobe Reader X (10.1) and earlier 10.x versions for Windows and Macintosh
Adobe Reader 9.4.5 and earlier 9.x versions for Windows and Macintosh
Adobe Reader 8.3 and earlier 8.x versions for Windows and Macintosh
Adobe Acrobat X (10.1) and earlier 10.x versions for Windows and Macintosh
Adobe Acrobat 9.4.5 and earlier 9.x versions for Windows and Macintosh
Adobe Acrobat 8.3 and earlier 8.x versions for Windows and Macintosh

So what does this mean for you — and what do you need to do?

Well, for starters: Don’t panic! It’s perfectly normal for software companies to occasionally issue security updates — heck, Microsoft even dedicates the second Tuesday of each month for this task and dubs it “Patch Tuesday.” These updates are simply meant to fix any previously undiscovered security holes or bugs. Beyond that, all you really need to do is make sure that you download and install the updates once they’re available.
